The People of Big Rock
Artist: Dirk Van Wyck
It has always been Big Rock's belief that to fully reflect the inherent quality of the beer, all packaging must be designed to reflect a similar level of artistic acheivment.
The first step was to commission Calgary artist, Dirk van Wyk, to design the labels and cartons to create an image of fine craftsmanship. This bold move not only created distinctive labels, it immediately fostered a special alliance between Dirk van Wyk and Big Rock. Since 1985, van Wyk has been Big Rock's exclusive artist-in-residence, designing everything from decals for the sides of our trucks to the covers for our annual reports.
Not only does Dirk van Wyk design the image, he also carefully produces all the lettering. The next time you enjoy your favorite Big Rock beer, take a close look at the lettering. Notice how carefully the letters are created, look at the symmetry between the rounded and linear letters, the carefully balanced spaces and how the lettering is integral to the overall design.
